What do I get for my membership in sanfordartists.com? In addition to being a part of the local artist network, you will receive three web pages where you can talk about yourself, your work and how you can be contacted. You will be provided up to ten graphic images to show your work. You will also receive two email addresses. A membership costs a $100.00 per year. What would a normal website cost? The cost varies with the size and complexity of the website. The standard rate for a fairly simple website is $500-$1,000 and $50 to $100 per month for continuing support and hosting. What would be my Internet address? You would be able to refer people to your web pages from an address that would resemble www.sanfordartist.com/yourname.htm. The "slash" is used to separate your information from the other artists. What do I need to prepare for the web pages? It is best to think about what you would like to say about yourself and your artwork. You would also need to have digital pictures of your work, or have existing photos scanned into a digital file. Jan can help you with some of the editing of your presentation, but you will need to know what you want to convey on the site. Will I be able to sell artwork on the site? We think that people want to see artwork before purchasing. In order to help facilitate potential sales, we will provide email contact between you and your customer, and other contact information. If there is a growing demand to sell artwork directly on the website, we would consider adding that feature at a future time. Will I be able to get changes made on my web pages? After the creation of your initial web pages, you can get changes made for the nominal rate of $20 per hour. At the renewal of your membership each year, you can get up to three hours of revision efforts. Once the web pages are up and running, what do I need to do? One of the common misconceptions about the Internet is that once you publish a website, contacts and business just booms. In reality, the website is a part of an overall marketing strategy. You would use the information as you would a brochure about your art. You need to publicize your web page address information on your printed material (such as business cards). You would need to develop a mailing list of email addresses to remind your past and potential customers about what you are doing. A passive approach will probably result in little value being recognized. We recommend that you publish an email newsletter at least quarterly. What if I don't know how to create and maintain the mailing list and newsletter? We can help you get that started, and it is a very simple process. Why can't I just rely on search engines to build traffic and contacts? Again, a common misperception is that search engines are the best way to get exposure. In reality, search engines have to index million of new pages per day. It takes a few months for a search engine like google or yahoo to index your information, after contact is made with those companies. What happens if I want a full website later? We can set that up for you. We would credit the amount that you paid for your web pages toward the cost of a total website. We estimate that it would cost an additional $250 to $500 to get that new website completed. Why are you charging less than the going rate for the web pages and for a full website? We wanted to create a means for the local Sanford artist to have an Internet presence without the high cost. We know that the typical artist is interested in art and not trying to maximize profit. We reflect a similar approach because we are interested in the success of artist and not high profit. Why can't you do this for no charge? It costs money to have the hosting servers, programs, and registering a domain. Jan is willing to create the web pages with minimal payments, so we keep our membership rate to a very low level. Just like all things, you have to pay for value. How do I get into contact with you? You can contact Jan through email: Jan@sanfordartists.com. You can also call Jan at 777-6710 which is the office number of EmPower Resources or at her home at 776-1086. |
